Day 7 January 21, 2012 Tepic to El Tuito, Jalisco, Mexico
Miles ridden: 137, we must get an earlier start tomorrow!Gas: $248 pesos
Meals: Birria somewhere before Puerto Vallarta, Chicken here in El Tuito
Lodging: $300 pesos
We got a late start this morning, then Tepic is a bustling city and took forever to work our way out of town. There were lots of mountainous, twisty roads in and out of Puerto Vallarta and it took forever to work our way of there. The traffic was very heavy in and around town.
We have ridden past some very nice farm land and harvesting is beginning. There is a heavy haze in the air from burning sugar cane. We saw many loaded down sugar cane trucks.
We stopped for the night in El Tuito. Small town of about 3,000 people. I went into a little store to ask where the hotel was in town. She pointed me down the road and when I asked how far, I thought she said 7 kilometers. While we were getting ready to leave a couple little boys about 7 years old came by and said something in Spanish and I heard “hotel”. So I asked him where it was. He pointed and there it was about a ½ block in front of us. Then a gentleman came over and invited us to his restaurant for chicken. He had 2 left, so we had him save is one and we would be back after checking into the hotel.
Carl worked on my bike tonight. He took out the lowering link and put the stock one back on. Hope I can get my feet on the ground! While working on the bike, a young man and woman stopped to visit. He had a KLR and was very interested in all of the farkles on our bikes. We teased her that she needed to learn how to ride a motorcycle, too. Told her that I did not learn how until I was 50 so it was not to late for her.
